Technology
NanoSight Pro uses both light scattering and Brownian motion properties to measure the size distribution and concentration of particles in a liquid suspension.
A laser beam is passed through the sample chamber, and the particles in the suspension scatter light along their path so that they can be easily visualised with a 20x magnification microscope equipped with a camera. The camera operates at 30 frames per second (fps) and records a video file of the particles moving under Brownian motion. The software tracks many particles one by one and calculates their hydrodynamic diameters using the Stokes-Einstein equation.

The NanoSight syringe pump provides a continuous flow of new particles into the sample chamber and its use is always recommended because:
In fluorescence mode it eliminates particles with degraded fluorescent substances (photobleaching)
In Light Scatter mode, the sample flow is smooth and the data obtained is reliable
The pump is controlled by the NS Xplorer software and is therefore very easy to use.
