Measure both particle size and particle shapeHigh resolution across a wide range of sizes (from micrometers to millimeters)Real-time imaging of a flowing sampleSuitable for dry powders, granules, and dispersionsEnables the analysis of shape parameters (e.g., length, roundness)Excellent for evaluating agglomeration and dispersionQuick measurement without manual sample preparation
QICPIC is based on high-speed digital imaging, in which a large number of individual particle images are captured from a moving sample. These images are used to generate a statistical analysis that accurately and reproducibly characterizes both the particle size distribution and shape characteristics.
QICPIC brings a new dimension to particle analysis by combining particle size and shape measurement in a single system. Thanks to its modular design, the instrument can be equipped with various feeding and dispersion units, making it suitable for a wide range of materials, including powders, granules, fibres, suspensions and emulsions. It provides a rapid and detailed picture of the material’s structure without the need for complex sample preparation.
Overall, QICPIC enables a deeper understanding of particle behaviour than traditional laser diffraction methods, as it combines both size and shape analysis on a product-by-product basis. This makes it an effective tool for research, product development and quality assurance, where the actual behaviour of the material is crucial.
The system also offers PICTOS for process applications, which enables measurements to be integrated directly into the production environment and allows for continuous process monitoring without the need for separate laboratory processing.
Dry applications
RODOSVIBRIGRADISASPIROSFIBROS
RODOS is a dry dispersion unit that uses compressed air and achieves particle velocities of up to 100 m/s, offering unique dispersion performance for powders, fibers, and granules ranging in size from less than 0.1 µm to 4000 µm.
For more information, visit the Sympatec website here.
VIBRI is a vibration-based dosing unit designed specifically for small and delicate sample quantities.
It is typically suitable for:
samples in the milligram to gram range
situations where sample material is limited
poorly flowing or light powders
VIBRI feeds the sample evenly into the RODOS dispersion unit, enabling controlled and repeatable measurement without requiring a large sample volume.
FIBROS is Sympatec’s dry dispersion unit, designed specifically for the gentle separation and precise analysis of fibers. It utilizes the “combing and carding” principle, which allows even heavily matted fibers to be separated automatically without manual pretreatment.
The unit was developed specifically for dynamic image analysis in conjunction with the QICPIC system, enabling accurate and repeatable measurement of fiber length, diameter, and shape.
It is suitable for dry fibers in the size range of approximately 500–30 000 µm in length and approximately 5–5000 µm in diameter, making it an excellent solution especially for the analysis of medium-sized and large fibers.
SUCELL is a fully automated nested dispersion unit. It utilizes ultrasound for efficient dispersion and is particularly suitable for measuring suspensions and stable emulsions across a wide size range.
Key features:
Measurement range approx. 0.1 µm – 2000 µm
Integrated ultrasound for breaking up agglomerates
Closed circulation system (approx. 500 ml volume)
Smooth and repeatable sample circulation during measurement
LIXELL is a liquid dispersion unit specifically designed for flexible measurement solutions for liquid samples. It is optimized for dynamic image analysis in conjunction with the QICPIC system and is ideal for situations requiring a customizable and integrable measurement setup.
An excellent choice for flexible and customized measurements
Enables connection to external pumps, syringes, and processes
Works for both flow-through and recirculating measurements
Modular design (various measurement cells and material options)
Particularly suitable for process and research applications
LIQXI is a sample introduction unit for liquid samples, designed for the precise dosing of finely dispersed suspensions and emulsions for measurement. It works in conjunction with the LIXELL and QICPIC systems and is specifically optimized for imaging small particles.
Designed for finely dispersed suspensions and emulsions
Suitable for particle sizes ranging from approximately 1 to 500 µm
Uses microcuvettes (30 µm – 1 mm) for accurate and interference-free analysis
Enables accurate and consistent sample feeding for low particle concentrations
Suitable for lab, at-line, and process measurements
MULTISAMPLER is a fully automated dosing system designed for high-throughput dry and wet dispersion measurements.
Key features:
Fully automated sample handling
Up to 70 sample vials per run
Sample tube volume approx. 39 ml
Batch-type measurement process (serial measurements)
Suitable for both dry and wet dispersions
The MULTISAMPLER is particularly useful in laboratories and production environments where large sample volumes are handled and measurement efficiency and repeatability need to be maximized.
